A Gateway to Wilderness Adventures

Exploring the Trails

Trail #705 meanders through the grassy, southern slopes of Loco Mountain, traversing the expansive Aeroplane Mesa. Stands of ponderosa pine, found in the canyons and on hilltops, provide essential shelter for the elk herds that frequent this open country.

At the end of Aeroplane Mesa, the trail descends 500 feet into the canyon of the Middle Fork of the Gila River. This descent offers hikers and horseback riders an excellent route to access the upper segment of the river, renowned for its pristine beauty and serene environment.

Connecting to More Adventures

Trail #705 seamlessly connects with the Middle Fork Trail #157 at the Gila River. This trail follows the length of the river from Snow Lake to the Gila Cliff Dwellings, offering an extended exploration opportunity for those looking to delve deeper into the wilderness. Additionally, Trail #705 links with the Trotter Trail #30, which leads to the West Fork of the Gila River, further expanding the network of trails available to adventurers.
