Arcadia Management Area is the state's largest recreation area, with over 14,000 mostly forested acres. It offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation. A joint management area for DEM's Forest Environment and Fish & Wildlife Divisions, it promotes hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, among other activities. The "multiple use" management principles ensure a safe and satisfying hunting experience for hunters and non-hunters alike. Arcadia State Park is a popular place for camping and outdoor activities as it offers many different trails. This gem of a ride features short steep climbs, roots, rocks, mud, scenery, technical spots, twists and turns, and much more.
There are miles of gravel roads and well-marked, well-maintained trails luring hikers to return to different sections each time. The same trails are often used by mountain bikers and horseback riders, so everyone must act responsibly, show courtesy, and keep the trail clear. There is plenty of parking available at Browning Mill Pond Recreation Area and Brook Trail, which are both accessible from Midway Trail.
Breakheart Pond is open to fishing and boating, but swimming, cooking, and fires are prohibited. There is a handicapped-accessible fishing platform at Frosty Hollow Pond, where you can fish for trout if you are 14 or younger. One of the state's best freshwater fishing experiences is available along the Wood River, which runs through the Management Area. You should keep in mind that there are some parts of the river that are only accessible to fly fishermen and others that are caught and release only. For more information about fishing in these areas, contact DEM's Division of Fish & Wildlife.
The Wood River has Class I and Class II stream ratings, ensuring a memorable outdoor experience for both novices and experienced paddlers. The Deer Check Station on Route 165 has a designated canoe launch area, and each major road crossing has a put-in or take-out area. There is ample space for horse trailer parking at Reynold's Horseman Area for horseback riders.
Arcadia Management Area offers the following activities you can enjoy:
