French Creek Horse Camp caters specifically to campers accompanied by horses, providing essential amenities and conveniences for a seamless and enjoyable stay. Each campsite comes equipped with two corrals, purposefully constructed to accommodate equine companions. To maintain the camp's standards, keeping the horse confinement areas clean is highly encouraged. However, it's important to note that additional corrals are not available, and the use of picketing and portable corrals is prohibited. Nonetheless, designated areas allow for the use of electric fences, ensuring the safety and comfort of the horses within the camp.

French Creek Horse Camp offers the following facilities and amenities:

  • Horse corrals
  • Cabins
  • Flush toilets
  • Showers
  • Vault toilet
  • Drinking water 
  • Water for horses

 

Horse Health Requirements:

Horses brought in from out of state require:

  • Health certificate within the last 30 days (Extended Equine Health Certificates (EECVI) are not accepted.)
  • Negative Coggins or ELISA EIA test within the last 12 months
  • Exceptions: Native horses from North Dakota and suckling foals traveling with a mare can travel on the mare's negative test. Colt traveling without the mare must have a negative test regardless of age. 
  • Brand Inspection Papers
    • SD law requires anyone transporting horses out of the ownership inspection area to have their horses inspected by a Brand Inspector. Contact: SD Brand Board 1.800.529.2333, visit their website for more information or see the campground host.

 

Cost Details:

  • Modern Campsites: $40 per night, includes two corrals (Restricted to one camping unit per site).
  • Camping Cabins: $55 per night

 

Restrictions:

  • Hay: A person may not transport or possess any forage used to feed recreational livestock while in Custer State Park unless the forage has attached to it a tag or seal issued through the SD Department of Agriculture or another state that certifies the forage to be free of nonnative plant species.
  • Open: May 1 - October 31 with full facilities and electricity. November 1 - April 29 for basic camping. Camping Cabins close on November 1.
  • No additional corrals are available. Keep your horse confinement area clean. Picketing and portable corrals are not allowed, electric fence is permitted in the designated areas.
