The drive to the campground along Forest Road 19 is a scenic adventure in itself, offering glimpses of wildlife, mountain streams, and vibrant wildflowers.

Comfortable Camping

Hunter Campground boasts 11 spacious campsites, nine of which are reservable, ensuring you have a spot to call your own. Each campsite features a 20 by 20 foot hardened use pad with a picnic table, utility table, fire ring, and an individual livestock corral. The campground also offers ample parking for vehicles and trailers, making it easy to bring all your gear along for the ride.

Accessible to All

One of the standout features of Hunter Campground is its accessibility. The entire facility is ADA (Americans with Disabilities) accessible, including the ramp for horse mounting. This ensures that all visitors, regardless of mobility, can enjoy everything this beautiful campground has to offer.

Direction:

From Buffalo, travel west on Highway 16 for 13 miles. Turn off Highway 16 west onto Forest Road 19, where you will travel approximately 2 miles to the campground.

 

Hunter Campground offers the following facilities and amenities:

  • Vault toilets
  • Picnic tables
  • Fire rings

 

The Hunter Trailhead provides numerous hiking and horse-friendly trails to access front-country, the Cloud Peak Wilderness as well as the Rock Creek Recommended Wilderness Area. The surrounding Bighorn National Forest offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, fishing, scenic driving, wildlife, and a number of historic sites.

 

Cost Details:

  • $10 per night. 8 reservable sites.

 

Notes:

  • Hay must be certified weed-free
  • 14-day stay limit
  • Be prepared for no water at the site
  • Be familiar with local Forest Service regulations
  • Practice Leave No Trace principles
  • Of the 11 sites, nine are reservable, one is used by the host during July/August and the remaining two are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
