Welcome to Idle Nook Horse Camp LLC, where peace and adventure coexist at the base of Buck Knob Mountain in the stunning Ouachita National Forest. Conveniently located about 8.5 miles east of the Hwy 270/71 Junction at Y-City, Arkansas, our camp offers an easily accessible yet secluded retreat. The paved road ensures a smooth drive all the way to our entrance, and once you pull in, the highway is out of sight, leaving you immersed in nature's tranquility.

Accommodations and Amenities

Idle Nook Horse Camp boasts 22 well-equipped sites, each with water and 30-amp electric hookups. For those with larger RVs, two of our sites also feature an additional 50 amp plug. Our facilities ensure that both you and your horses are comfortable and well-cared for. Most of our stalls are covered, providing protection from the elements for your four-legged companions.

For campers without sleeping quarters, we offer two cozy bunkhouses. One bunkhouse includes two twin beds, while the other features a queen-size bed and a bathroom, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Our brand new log-sided enclosed pavilion is a standout feature, equipped with modern bathrooms, showers, and a fully stocked kitchen. This pavilion is an excellent gathering spot for meals, socializing, and even some karaoke on our dance floor. And yes, ice is available for purchase!

Trail Access and Riding Opportunities

The true highlight of Idle Nook Horse Camp is its direct access to the Fourche Mountain Horse Trails (formerly Mill Creek Equestrian Trails). With over 130 miles of marked trails, there's an abundance of riding opportunities to explore. The trails are clearly marked with colored ribbons, and maps are provided to guide your adventures. Whether you're here for a weekend or a week, there's more than enough trail riding to keep you engaged and excited.

Directions:

From Y-City, Ar:

Turn east onto hwy 270 and go about 8 miles or so and you’ll see Quail Rd, a little after that you’ll see Ray Hotel Road on the right (do not turn onto those roads, stay on  270, they are just reference points), immediately after that is idlenook road on the right, turn in there, go to second set of gates. there’s a sign that says “Welcome to the nook”. all road signs are red so they’re easy to see!

From Mt. Ida, Ar:

Stay on 270 and go through pencil bluff. we are about 15 miles from Pencil Bluff. after you go over Big Mountain past Pencil Bluff, you will cross the Scott co line(there is a sign on the right). we are 3 miles from that point on the left. there will be forest land and then you’ll see 2 houses up on the hill on the left. about a half mile on the left you will see our sign.  you can turn it in there, or if you pass it,   you can turn it in at a road sign (red) that says “Idlenook”. go to the second gate and you’re there!

it is a paved road all the way to camp! you cannot see our campground from the highway, so watch for our sign!

There are over a hundred and thirty miles of marked trails with new trails being added constantly. The trails are marked with colored ribbons on the trails we created, and the Fourche Mountain trails are marked by yellow rectangles! Maps are provided!! We like woods riding the best so that’s what we’re trying to add the most. There are waterfalls, scenic mountain vistas, beautiful rock formations, plenty of creek crossings, abandoned silver mines, and miles and miles of endless riding. Rides can range from a short one-hour ride to a day full of riding! The Ouachita National Forest is absolutely beautiful.

 

Cost Details:

  • Campsite: $25/night + Stall Rental
  • Stall: $5/night per stall (Only 1 horse allowed per stall)
  • Dayparking: $6
  • Primitive: $16/night + Stall Rental
  • Bunkhouse with 1 person: $35/night + Stall Rental
  • Bunkhouse with 2 people: $40/night + Stall Rental
  • The Nook: $55/night + Stall Rental
  • (2 people included, $6 extra person/night in Bunkhouse/The Nook)
  • (You must furnish your own linens and towels-twin beds in bunkhouse, queen in The Nook)

 

Notes:

  • Call ahead for reservations to ensure you have a spot available!
  • Scott County is a dry county. The nearest liquor store is 42 miles east on Hwy 270.
