Encompassing lush, glacial soils and native woodlands, Union Grove State Park is a hidden treasure that beckons those seeking a peaceful yet adventurous getaway.

A Haven for Riders and Nature Enthusiasts

Union Grove State Park is a sanctuary for horseback riders, hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers, featuring several miles of trails that wind through the forest along Brule Creek. The park’s diverse plant life and towering trees create a vibrant backdrop, attracting a variety of bird species that delight birdwatchers and botanists alike. Whether you’re on horseback or foot, the park’s trails offer a captivating journey through South Dakota’s natural landscape.

The multi-use trails at Union Grove State Park extend up to 4.3 miles, offering plenty of room for exploration whether you’re riding a horse or mountain bike. For those who prefer a more solitary experience, the 1.2-mile hiking trail is reserved for foot traffic only, providing a tranquil path through the heart of the park.

Wildlife and Birdwatching Opportunities

Union Grove State Park is more than just a recreational destination; it’s a thriving ecosystem teeming with wildlife. Visitors can expect to encounter deer, wild turkeys, beavers, and an array of small animals that call the park home. The rich variety of trees and plant life also supports a vibrant bird population, making the park a hotspot for birdwatching. With species like cardinals, orioles, grosbeaks, warblers, red-winged blackbirds, blue jays, pheasants, and wild turkeys, bird enthusiasts will find Union Grove State Park to be a rewarding experience.

Equestrian Camping at Its Best

For those who love camping with their horses, Union Grove State Park offers an ideal setting. The quiet, well-shaded campsites provide a perfect base for a weekend of riding. The park’s horse camp is equipped to cater to equestrian campers, ensuring both you and your horse can relax and recharge after a day on the trails.
