Diverse Terrain and Scenic Trails

At an elevation ranging from 6,700 to 8,600 feet, Gillespie Ranch offers diverse terrain that’s perfect for exploring on horseback, foot, or wheels. The ranch headquarters, located at 7,200 feet, is surrounded by miles upon miles of trails that vary in difficulty, ensuring that there’s something for everyone—from leisurely rides through towering Ponderosa pines to more challenging trails that climb to breathtaking vistas.

Year-Round Adventure

One of the most appealing aspects of Gillespie Ranch is its year-round accessibility. Whether you’re visiting in the crisp air of winter, the blossoming beauty of spring, the vibrant warmth of summer, or the golden hues of autumn, the ranch offers a different but equally captivating experience in every season. This makes it a prime destination for those who wish to experience all four of New Mexico's beautiful seasons while engaging in their favorite outdoor activities.

Full-service RV Park and Comfortable Cabins

Gillespie Ranch is fully equipped to cater to equestrian campers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The ranch headquarters features an RV park with 11 full hook-up sites, each accompanied by picnic tables, making it a perfect spot to set up camp after a day of exploration. The park also boasts 24 horse pens—fully covered 15' x 15' pipe pens—ensuring that your equine companions are as comfortable as you are.

For those looking for a bit more comfort, Gillespie Ranch offers two cozy cabins, each with its own unique charm. The lower cabin is fully furnished and features a wood-burning stove, a full kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and a beautiful deck that offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The upper cabin, which is pet-friendly, comes with a full kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and a fenced yard—perfect for those traveling with furry friends. However, guests are asked to bring their own bedding and towels.

Community and Amenities

Gillespie Ranch goes beyond just providing a place to stay—it offers a community and a connection to the Western way of life. The large pavilion at the RV park is perfect for group gatherings, complete with a fire pit, grills, and picnic tables, making it an ideal spot to share stories and meals with fellow campers. Horse enthusiasts will appreciate the round pen and full-sized roping arena, where they can practice or simply enjoy some time with their horses.

For those interested in unique finds, the ranch's "treasures" shop is a must-visit. With a collection that includes antiques, one-of-a-kind rustic artwork, horsehair jewelry, Native American sterling silver and turquoise jewelry, enamelware, vintage items, and more, there’s something for every collector or those simply looking for a memorable souvenir.

A True Western Experience Awaits

Gillespie Ranch is more than just a campsite; it’s an invitation to experience the spirit of the West in its most authentic form. Whether you’re there to ride the trails, explore the forest, or simply relax in the serene surroundings, Gillespie Ranch offers an adventure for every outdoor enthusiast. So, pack your gear, saddle up your horse, and head to Gillespie Ranch for an unforgettable stay in the stunning Southern Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico.

Directions:

To Get to the ranch: Take New Mexico Highway 82 to Carr Gap Canyon Road which is about halfway between mile markers 36 and 37.  Turn north on Carr Gap Canyon Road, which is a two-lane gravel road, and continue 3.5 miles to Walker Canyon Road which is also known as Dry Burn Canyon Road on the internet maps.  Turn left on Walker Canyon Road (There is also a little blue sign with a picture of an RV on it just before you turn onto Walker Canyon).

Go 1.3 miles on Walker Canyon. Just before the 2nd cattle guard, on the left, you will see a rustic wooden sign that says Gillespie Ranch.  Turn left onto our driveway and keep to the right, following the signs up to the RV park.  The horse pens for guests are IN the RV park (there are some horse pens soon after you turn into our driveway but those are for the Gillespie Ranch horses).
