Maverick Campground Is The Perfect Getaway For Horse Camping

The Cimarron River runs through this narrow, forested canyon on the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway near Eagle Nest. The Maverick Campground features beautiful scenery, interesting geology, quiet camping, fly fishing, hiking, and equestrian trails. As the park lies in the heart of Colin Neblett Wildlife Management Area, wildlife viewing opportunities are plentiful. It's the perfect getaway for free-spirited individuals.

 

A few miles from the park office, Maverick Campground can be found along the east side of the Cimarron River. You can follow this direction if you’re planning to visit the Maverick Campground. If you’re from the Northeast: Exit I-25 at Exit 446 South of Raton and take US 64, 50 miles to park. From Southeast: Exit I-25 at Exit 418, North Of Springer, take Hwy 56 to Cimarron, turn left, and take US 64, 15 miles to the park. From West: Take US 64 from Taos, 35 miles to park. All Campgrounds off US 64, Tolby Campground is just East of Milepost 288; Maverick and Ponderosa Campgrounds are just East of Milepost 295.

Policies/Business Rules

  • Length of Stay

A maximum of 14 days can be spent camping within a 20-day period. Campers who stay in a park for 14 days must leave the park for a week before returning.

  • Booking Window

It is possible to make reservations 6 months in advance of the current day.

  • Vehicles Per Site

Each site allows one sleeping unit and one other vehicle (space permitting). Whether it is a motor home towing a vehicle or a vehicle towing a camping trailer, both are considered as one sleeping unit. Additional vehicles, including motorcycles, are subject to a $10 per night fee, apart from the sleeping units.

  • Pet Policy

Pet owners are responsible for keeping their pets under control. The area should be kept clean and sanitary by pet owners. You must keep your pet on a leash that is no longer than 10 feet. Pet owners must ensure that their pets do not bark and howl excessively or make loud noises. Pet owners are responsible for ensuring that their animals do not bite or attack anyone or destroy any property. Don't leave your pet in the car or at the campsite unattended.

 

At Maverick Campground, you can enjoy various activities with your friends and families. There are also facilities and amenities available in the campsite such as restrooms, picnic table, RV, etc. If you’re planning to stay there, the facility rates are as follows:

Tent Only: $10.00

Daily Entrance: $5.00

Camping: $10.00
