The campground is equipped with toilets, tables, and parking facilities. The largest parking spur is 12' x 40', and the campground road is not suitable for vehicles longer than 40ft. 

One of the highlights of the Tom Miner Campground is the horse corral located adjacent to the trailhead. This feature makes it easy for horseback riders to hit the trail and explore the surrounding area. The campground also features designated horse trails that provide access to some of the most picturesque scenery in Montana. 

It's important to note that the availability of the campground may be weather-dependent. Also, because the site is managed on a first-come, first-served basis, it's necessary to arrive in the early afternoon to ensure there is space available for the night. During the summer months, especially on weekends and holidays, the campground may fill up quickly. 

While Tom Miner Campground is best known as a horse campsite, it is also a popular destination for hikers, fishermen, and hunters. The surrounding area is teeming with wildlife, including elk, deer, moose, black bear, and grizzly bear. Visitors are encouraged to take necessary precautions when in the area.

  • Campground roads only suitable for vehicles 40ft. 
  • Horse corrals and trailhead for the Gallatin Petrified Forest Trail are adjacent to a campground at the upper end.
  • All sites are available only on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s very common for the campground to fill during the summer months so be sure to arrive early to secure a site.
