Camp Description

Vanderbilt, MI 49795

Elk Hill Horse Campground, perched along a scenic bluff overlooking the majestic Pigeon River, offers equestrian campers a serene and well-appointed escape into Michigan’s natural beauty. Located just 14 miles east of Vanderbilt, this peaceful campground is a hidden gem for those seeking solitude and adventure amidst the state’s lush forests and winding rivers.

The Elk Hill campground features 11 shaded sites, six of which can accommodate up to a 40-foot vehicle, providing ample space for trailers and larger rigs. Sites 4 and 11 are designed as "buddy" sites, offering the unique option for two camping units to share a single site when both are rented together. Each campsite is equipped with essential amenities, including a fire ring, picnic table, and picket posts to secure your horses.

Elk Hill Horse Campground is not just a destination; it's a gateway to one of Michigan’s most renowned trail systems—the Shore-to-Shore Trail. This extensive 420-mile trail network spans from Empire on Lake Michigan’s shoreline to Oscoda on Lake Huron, making it the only trail system in the state that connects these two Great Lakes.

The Shore-to-Shore Trail is a haven for both hikers and horseback riders, winding through some of Michigan’s most breathtaking landscapes. The trail also features northern and southern spurs, providing additional opportunities for exploration. Elk Hill serves as an ideal stop along this expansive trail, offering a convenient and comfortable place to rest and recharge before continuing your journey.
