Trail #705 meanders through the grassy, southern slopes of Loco Mountain, traversing the expansive Aeroplane Mesa. The gently rolling grasslands and distant mountain views create a tempting invitation to wander through this stunning countryside. Stands of ponderosa pine, found in the canyons and on hilltops, provide essential shelter for the elk herds that frequent this open country.
At the end of Aeroplane Mesa, the trail descends 500 feet into the canyon of the Middle Fork of the Gila River. This descent offers hikers and horseback riders an excellent route to access the upper segment of the river, renowned for its pristine beauty and serene environment.
