Camp Description

Douglas, WY

Roaring Fork Creek Trailhead, situated near Friend Park Campground at the base of Laramie Peak, is a gateway to pristine wilderness and breathtaking views. This 9-mile non-motorized trail offers a rugged adventure for hikers, horseback riders, and nature enthusiasts alike.

The trail winds around the northwest side of Laramie Peak into Ashenfelder Basin, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. The first mile of the trail follows an old fire road before turning into a single-track trail that ascends steeply for another mile. Along the way, you'll pass through areas that were affected by a forest fire in the mid-1980s, where small lodgepole pines are now regrowing, creating a unique and beautiful landscape.

Roaring Fork Creek Trailhead provides ample parking for horse trailers and camping units, making it easy to access the trailhead and begin your adventure. Horse camping is allowed, although there are no developed facilities at the trailhead. Dispersed camping is available at the trailhead and at Goochie Park along the trail, offering a true wilderness camping experience.
